Homeopathy Awareness Week 2024
Today is April 10th and it marks the beginning of World Homeopathy Awareness Week!
It's an opportunity for Homeopaths and patients to share positive experiences and spread the word about the safe and gentle healing system of Homeopathy in the hope that it will encourage others to use it too.
The theme for this year is from patient to practitioner so I wanted to share a little about how I came to Homeopathy and what it's meant for me.
When did I first experience Homeopathy?
I was in my twenties and at a very low ebb when I first tried Homeopathy.
I was three weeks into my umpteenth bout of ulcerative tonsillitis and the anti-biotics were no longer working. Instead, I was beginning to react negatively to ever stronger doses. On top of that I was heartbroken, suppressed and angry.
My first appointment was with a calm and quiet lady in Putney. I sat and told my story, crying all the way through. The calm lady had said very little during our appointment, but somehow she had enabled me to say an awful lot!
I left with three tablets that would mark the end of my pesky tonsillitis and a new beginning for me.
I have never used anti-biotics since.
How did I become a Homeopath?
After the Putney tonsil experience I knew that I was onto something. But in that strange way that makes us relate more easily to a tenner in the pocket than a lottery win, it just felt too big to process and I didn’t pursue it for several more years.
When eventually I did choose to study it, I was ready for "the big one". I wanted a system capable of offering help to all ages, during all conditions, in every scenario throughout the entire cycle of life. A system powerful enough to resonate with every layer of who and what we are.
A tall order? Perhaps. But my tonsils, and my inner knowing told me it was possible - I began my 5 year study.
In 24 years, it has rarely come up short, and I am immensely proud to be a Homeopath – I feel it’s the most important and useful thing I have done with my life to date.
Knowing through your own experience
If you’ve felt the subtle power of Homeopathy working for you and witnessed your own symptoms change then you will know that, as difficult as it is can be to explain it to others, you can't "unknow" that level of experience. Yes, it feels miraculous, but it's not a miracle.
But how does it work?
That’s a very in-depth bit of study! Where medication uses milligrams of a synthetic patented substance (a drug) to produce an opposite action on the body, Homeopathy uses energetic frequencies (known as potencies) of diluted and unpatented ones (called remedies) to produce an effect on the body that’s similar to, or like, the symptom.
Hence the Homeopathic term “Like treats Like”. Because it is suggested that two things of the same frequency cannot occupy the same space, a window for one to become dominant appears.
If the potency is right then the remedy temporarily takes up the space.
In this space our symptom becomes changeable.
Remedies resonate at every vibrational level and as such they can resonate with every vibration and frequency that we are. They are able to occupy every space.
In his writings Einstein said:
“Concerning matter, we’ve been all wrong. What we have called matter is energy whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses. Matter is spirit reduced to a point of visibility”.
I will leave you with this beautiful Aphorism from the Organon of Medicine written by the father of Homoepathy, Samuel Hahnmann:
“In the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force (autocracy), the dynamis that animates the material body (organism), rules with unbounded sway, and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious, vital operation, as regards both sensations and functions, so that our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely employ this living, healthy instrument for the higher purpose of our existence.”
